Video: Bolsonaro says interim general of Health ‘will stay for a long time’

President Jair Bolsonaro (without a party) said on Wednesday (20) that the interim Minister of Health, General Eduardo Pazuello, “will stay for a long time” in office. The confirmation was given to a group of employees of the garbage collection system who were close to the Palácio da Jaburu. “He (Pazuello) will stay for a long time, the one who is there. I will not change that. He is a good manager and will have a good team of doctors under him ”, he declared. The video of the interaction was published by Foco do Brasil, a YouTube channel with a pro-government profile.

In the images, the president questions the street sweepers about the work situation of neighbors and employees’ acquaintances. “A question for you, are you working, and have the neighbors lost their jobs? How are you? Can you take a long time without working? How is the refrigerator for these people, is it empty? ”He asked.

Bolsonaro also criticized measures of social isolation that have affected economic activity. “This impoverishment that they are doing almost all over Brazil, will lead the poor to become poorer, the middle class to become poor, and it is bad for everyone because without money they have no life, they are not healthy,” he said.

Last month, two ministers resigned from their health post after disagreeing with Bolsonaro about the isolation measures to contain the pandemic’s progress, in addition to a protocol on the release of the use of the controversial chloroquine to treat patients at an early stage of the covid- 19, that the president pressured the publication. They were: Luiz Henrique Mandetta and Nelson Teich.

Today, the Ministry of Health, under the command of the general, released a protocol releasing the medication, whose effectiveness against the new virus still has no scientific basis. Doctors Mandetta and Teich refused to sign such a protocol, citing the lack of conclusive studies on the effectiveness of the drug, which is used to treat lupus and malaria, and has serious side effects.

In an interview with Folha de S.Paulo, this week, Mandetta even cited a study that shows that chloroquine can increase the number of deaths of Brazilians at home and commented on the increased presence of military personnel in Bolsonaro’s Ministry of Health.
