The matchmakers in Italy’s Serie A gave the top teams real cracks on the last matchday.
While champions Juventus Turin are testing their form in the Champions League against AS Roma before the round of 16 second leg against Olympique Lyon (first leg: 0: 1), the three-way battle for the runner-up championship promises excitement and plenty of goals. (The 38th match day of Serie A from 8:45 p.m. in LIVETICKER)
Inter Milan (79) is currently second, one point ahead of Atalanta Bergamo and Lazio Rome (78). Like Juventus, the trio is already qualified for the premier class, but there is still a lot for the teams.
Bergamo, which has been unbeaten since the restart after the Corona break, receives the German Robin Gosens in a direct duel Inter and would win the runner-up championship on their own. In addition, the team, which is already in the quarter-finals of the Champions League (against Paris Saint-Germain), are only two goals short of the historic 100-goal mark in Serie A. Atalanta is currently 98:46 goals.
Immobile waves golden shoe
There is only one outsider chance for the runner-up championship, Lazio, who also has a tricky task to do away with SSC Napoli. Ciro Immobile can celebrate winning the Golden Shoe. With 35 goals this season, the former Dortmund is now one goal ahead of Robert Lewandowski (FC Bayern), Cristiano Ronaldo (31 goals) is four goals behind. Since the Portuguese are not in the Juve squad on the last match day, Immobile’s victory is practically unavoidable.
For Turin, it’s about getting back in shape after two defeats in the last three games. Opponents AS Roma have already secured fifth place, so the Roma can play freely.
Sixth-placed AC Milan received Cagliari Calcio at the same time: Zlatan Ibrahimovic was in top form for Milan, but could already play his last game for the Lombards. However, the Swede is negotiating an extension, his Milan time is likely to continue.
The relegation battle is on Sunday, the CFC Genoa and US Lecce fight in remote duels against the relegation to Serie B (from 8:45 p.m. in the LIVETICKER).
