On Saturday night, the North London derby between Arsenal and Chelsea leads to the FA Cup final in the Premier League – and the Gunners have the chance to win a messed up season through the back door, halfway to forgiveness shape. Despite a slight upward trend in the last games, the team around head coach Mikel Arteta could not meet the high expectations of the club. The Londoners ended this season with the eighth place in the table – the worst place in 25 years.

Add to that the missed Europa League qualification – actually a farce for the traditional club. The Gunners can avert this disappointment in the cup fight against the blues. The winner can participate in the group stage of the Europa League, but Chelsea is already qualified for the Champions League.

“It is also very special for me to be in a final right in my first season as a coach – the team and the boys are excited and looking forward to the game,” said head coach Arteta at the press conference before the game.

And he already has experience with an English cup win. In 2014, at that time as a player and captain, the 38-year-old won the FA Cup with Arsenal.

Chelsea on the rise

But the opposing coach Frank Lampard and his current employer also managed this feat. As a player, Lampard even won the trophy four times.

And as the current coach, things are going well for the Londoners as well. With fourth place in the table, the Champions League is safe and the Blues were able to prove themselves against well-known opponents on the way to the final.

Leicester City, Manchester United and champions Liverpool beat the men around chief coach Lampard in the previous rounds and are therefore favorites for the final.

“I’m really looking forward to the cup final no matter the circumstances. The fact remains that the FA Cup is a huge cup we want to win and we have a very tough game against a London derby rival,” said the 42nd -Year old.

Mustafi and Leno injured

In terms of personnel, only the Gunners have to cut corners in this cup fight – N’golo Kanté and Willian have recovered after minor injuries, but Arsenal have to do without the Germans Bernd Leno and Shkodran Mustafi due to injuries. Mesut Özil no longer plays a role in sports, so probably no German is used on the Arsenal side.

So the pressure is on the Gunners, who can still save their chance of winning the Europa League with a win. But Chelsea FC is also hot for the first title under its new young coach Lampard.
