In the opinion of the Dehoga association, the reduction in VAT in the catering trade to the lower rate as a corona relief measure must be maintained even after the crisis.
Berlin / Munich (dpa) – “This is a very important measure to stabilize the industry,” said the managing director of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association, Ingrid Hartges, the German press agency.
«We advocate a limitation of this regulation for a variety of reasons. We have been demanding them for years – also for reasons of competition. »
The taxes on food would have to be the same – regardless of whether they were served “in the cardboard” or on the plate. “It’s also a question of appreciation,” said Hartges. “We are the public living room of society.”
In addition, the effects of the corona crisis will be felt for a long time – and many restaurateurs could face the end. In the case of beverages, Hartges advocated a reduction in VAT to seven percent, at least for non-alcoholic beverages.
For years, the restaurateurs had demanded a reduction from 19 percent to the lower rate of 7 percent, which was now implemented in the wake of the crisis to support the restaurateurs. Currently, as a further measure, rates of 16 and 5 percent, which have been reduced even further until the end of the year, apply to all industries.
