A Coruña, Jul 31 (EFE) .- Deportivo fans took to the streets this Friday, but in their vehicles, in defense of their club after their match was suspended on the last day of LaLiga SmartBank, which had to have disputed in unified schedule, and, consequently, lost the category by the results of other teams that preceded it.
From 7:00 p.m., the volunteers from the Federation of Sports Clubs delivered blue and white material to the protesters to add color to the hundreds of vehicles in which they followed the march from the esplanade of the Riazor Sports Palace to the headquarters of the Federation Gallega de Fútbol, about five kilometers.
At the head of the procession, Deportivo coach Fernando Vázquez, who has raised the flag of the team’s struggle to continue in professional football.
Organizers advocated setting an example, acting responsibly and “not giving motives to those who are acting selflessly” against the club.
At the headquarters of the Galician Federation, where they were received by its president, Rafael Louzán, the protesters read a statement in defense of Deportivo’s interests and before what they consider an “injustice” of LaLiga and its president, Javier Tebas.
“Once again, it was demonstrated that the supporters of Dépor are First Class and that they are not allowed to be trodden by any person or institution that with its power the only thing it intends is to benefit some to the detriment of others, when all the clubs must be treated same in the competition and the offices “, they explained from the Federation of Peñas.
They also criticized the trip from Fuenlabrada to Galicia without having the results of the PCR tests that later showed several positives for COVID-19.
“We never understood nor will we understand how so many citizens were put at risk for a soccer match. First, there is the health of the people and for this we want a prompt improvement for all the members of the Fuenlabrada staff,” they maintained.
They also had an impact on the “economic damage” for the city and many companies due to coronavirus cases.
On the last day of the Second Division, which had to have been held with all the matches at the same time, the match between Deportivo and Fuenlabrada was suspended due to the positive by COVID-19 of the Madrid team.
Deportivo, who depended on other results to save himself, saw how Lugo and Albacete won and that sent him to Segunda B without actually playing.
In this sense, the fans condemned the “abuse and injustice” that occurred with Deportivo and “all the teams” as the day had not been played in a unified schedule, which, in their opinion, seriously “corrupted the competition”.
Since then, the club, with the support of its social mass, has undertaken a fight not to go down to Segunda B, a category in which they have not been active for 40 years.
“Since that date (in reference to Monday, July 20), the only thing we are doing is defending the rights of the club and all the fans. We are not going to be left alone in this demonstration. If necessary, we will open all avenues of protest and of possible defense, taking them to the last consequences “, they exposed.
The Federation of Sports Clubs not only thanked the support of the Blue and Whites’ fans and the city of A Coruña, but also of the Federation of Peñas del Lugo, Elche, Rayo Vallecano and Numancia.
They also thanked the Galician Football Federation for allowing them to read the statement within its facilities.
