Fires, helicopter control doubled in Piedmont

Rome, August 2. (askanews) – The forest firefighting system of the Piedmont Region is continuing to operate to extinguish the numerous fires that have developed in recent days, mainly in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola but now also in those of Alessandria and Vercelli. Also today, the regional helicopter intervened alongside the Aib volunteers and the firefighters.

Aib staff is in action in Fraconalto (Al) with 16 volunteers, 7 vehicles and a helicopter, in Varallo Sesia and Valstrona (VCO). From Tuesday, after the interval due to the passage of bad weather forecast for Piedmont, the helicopter garrison will be doubled, which can therefore count on two vehicles in continuous availability at the bases of Busano (To) and Varallo Sesia (Vc). The decision is also due to the fact that the State vehicles are primarily committed to the emergencies that are affecting the Center-South and the islands.

It should be noted that today many volunteers, together with colleagues from the Civil Defense, have been employed for the removal of trees and plates in Alessandria and Moncalvo (Asti). The evolution of the situation is closely followed by the regional councilor for civil protection, who thanks the volunteers who, facing difficult climatic conditions, are providing a valuable service to help the population and safeguard the territory.
