Hurricane Isaias hits the Bahamas before threatening Florida, in the midst of the Covid-19 epidemic


L’Hurricane Isaias takes strength. Passed during the night of Thursday July 31 to Friday August 1 from the status of tropical storm to that of category 1 hurricane (out of 5), it hit the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos archipelago, with winds up to 130 km / h, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). It should strengthen before hitting Florida at the end of the day.

In its latest bulletin, the NHC described the phenomenon as an expansive storm, which is moving northwest at a speed of 22.5 km / h. “Hurricane situations and dangerous storm surges are expected in parts of the Bahamas on Saturday, and hurricane warnings are in effect,” said the NHC, referring to these territories already devastated in September 2019 by hurricane Dorian Category 5, which left at least 70 people dead, hundreds missing and billions of dollars in property damage.

During his passage in the Dominican Republic, of which 14 of the 32 provinces had been placed on red alert, Isaias was killed and caused river flooding. Roads submerged in mud, high voltage lines torn off, decapitated trees and vegetation, flooded houses … It also caused a lot of damage on Friday in Puerto Rico, American territory.
