The L214 association filed on Friday July 31st an appeal against the “Demeter cell” created by the authorities to fight against “attacks on the agricultural world”, seeing it as an enterprise of “intimidation” against activists denouncing the industrial breeding. “There is a desire to intimidate us,” Brigitte Gothière, co-founder of the anti-species association, who has published dozens of videos denouncing the conditions of breeding, transport and slaughter of animals, told AFP. It calls for the dissolution of the national cell for monitoring attacks on the agricultural world, or “Demeter cell”, created by the gendarmerie in the fall of 2019, as well as the termination of an agreement signed in December between the Ministry of the Interior. and the majority agricultural unions FNSEA and Young Farmers.
The purpose of this cell and this agreement, in the words of the then Minister of the Interior, Christophe Castaner, is “to better protect our farmers”, in particular against intrusions into farms. “I asked that antispeciesism be one of the priority axes of intelligence,” he explained in December. “The associative world of animal protection and more generally environmentalist is placed under surveillance at a time when the need and demand for transparency from citizens on these themes have never been so important”, affirms L214 in the request for interim relief filed with the administrative court of Paris and consulted by AFP.

The association castigates the “growing and daily deployment of this cell and this convention” and “the impact they continue to have on the fundamental freedoms of the L214 association (increasingly regular summons from its members , intimidation, dissuasion of exercising public freedoms …) and of all associations and citizens wishing to be transparent
