Long jump world champion Malaika Mihambo got off to a good start at the start of the season over the 100 m.
The 26-year-old finished fourth at the Kurpfalz Gala in Weinheim and in 11.50 seconds was still relatively well above her personal best of 11.21. The local hero won her lead in 11.47 seconds. The organizers had put the meeting under the motto “Back to Applause”, after all, almost 300 fans were admitted to the Sepp Herberger Stadium.
Mihambo at DM in the long jump at the start
At the German championships in Braunschweig next weekend, Mihambo also wants to start in her flagship long jump. However, she plans to jump out of the blue. After the past indoor season, Germany’s athlete of the year had to struggle with health problems.
Mihambo originally wanted to train with the athletics icon Carl Lewis in the USA. The high corona numbers in the United States currently do not allow this.
