More than 200,000 corona deaths in Latin America and the Caribbean

In Latin America and the Caribbean, the number of deaths from the novel corona virus has exceeded the 200,000 threshold. According to a AFP census on Sunday, based on official data, 200,212 people in the region have died of corona infection since the pandemic began. Brazil and Mexico account for almost three quarters of the deaths.

Latin America and the Caribbean are the second worst affected region by Europe after the corona pandemic, where 210,435 deaths have been recorded so far. With more than 93,500 deaths, Brazil leads the statistics in Latin America and the Caribbean, followed by Mexico with more than 47,400 Corona deaths and Peru with more than 19,400 deaths. In total, more than 4.9 million people in the region have already contracted the novel corona virus.

Since the pandemic began, 685,192 people worldwide have died from the lung disease Covid-19 caused by the coronavirus. The number of cases of infection registered worldwide is more than 17.8 million. Due to the lack of test capacities in many countries, experts assume that the number of unreported cases is high.
