Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is unavailable for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea, after a trip to Turkey this week. According to our sources, the German was allowed to travel to Turkey after being informed that he would not be part of Mikel Arteta’s squad for the Wembley game.
The 31-year-old has spent the final days abroad, and with just 10 non-playing club members allowed to attend the final, the Gunners have approved of his absence.
Ozil hasn’t played a single minute for Arsenal since English football resumed in June, and speculation about his future at the club rages on now that the transfer window is open.
Mesut Ozil is in Turkey, as reported by @ChrisWheatley_. Club gave him approval to go as wasn’t going to be involved. Only 10 non-playing players allowed at tomorrow’s final as well as match day squad.
The former Germany international, who has only a year left on his contract, has been mentioned to Fenerbahçe in recent weeks, and several MLS clubs have also reportedly been monitoring his situation closely.
Arteta tried to play down Ozil’s continued omission from his plans earlier this month, in a press conference: “Sometimes we have to try to put the players we have at the right times, in the right positions so that they can play and be comfortable on the pitch doing what we ask them to do. There is always a room for a player of Ozil’s quality. “
The midfielder has since declared himself “ready” to play via social media, but the Arsenal boss has refused to change his position. Club legend Charlie Nicholas looked into Ozil’s current situation earlier this week, insisting he will likely wait for the right offer so he can get his career back on track away from the Emirates.
“Ozil won so much money he’s going to be bored, Nicolas told Sky Sports. He’ll be frustrated and have enough, and when he gets the right deal, he’ll eventually move on. He will not sit in the sun for long with his little umbrella, because it is a habit of life! He wants to go play. “
