Puigdemont will chair JxCat and Sànchez is running as general secretary

Barcelona, Aug 2 (EFE) .- Ex-President Carles Puigdemont will preside over Junts per Catalunya (JxCat), recently formed as a party, while former ANC leader Jordi Sànchez, now in prison, is the great favorite to become secretary general, although he will have to compete with an alternative candidate, Josep Sort.

The JxCat congressional process table has announced this Sunday the candidacies for the presidency, the general secretary and the rest of the management, that the bases will be able to vote electronically from August 7 to 9.

There is only one candidacy for the presidency, that of the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, accompanied by four vice-presidencies: Elsa Artadi -leader of JxCat at Barcelona City Council and who is once again becoming a key figure in the organization-, Josep Rius -as Artadi , a close collaborator of Puigdemont during the legislature of 1-O-, former prisoner Jordi Turull and the mayor of Vic (Barcelona), Anna Erra.

Turull and Erra come from the PDeCAT, although they have moved away from the position of the leadership of this party, led by David Bonvehí and which has ended up distancing itself from the organizational structure of JxCat.

The official candidacy for leadership, the great favorite in the votes from August 7 to 9, reflects the internal balances between the different families that live in JxCat.

Jordi Sànchez, until now leader of the National Crida for the Republic and one of the main ideologues of the JxCat project, is running as secretary general.

Along with Sànchez, David Saldoni, General Director of Transport and Mobility of the Generalitat, former President of the Catalan Association of Municipalities and Counties and close to the Minister of Interior, Miquel Buch, is therefore a profile from the PDeCAT. but critical of Bonvehí’s distancing strategy.

If Saldoni is nominated for the precious position of organization secretary, the finance secretary may fall to Teresa Pallarès, deputy in the Parliament and councilor of the Reus City Council (Tarragona), whose mayor, Carles Pellicer, is one of the profiles of the PDeCAT more suspicious of the independence strategy printed by Puigdemont.

The official candidacy incorporates 18 other names to occupy the positions of the executive, among which are Míriam Nogueras, until now vice-president of the PDeCAT -he resigned on Friday to the post- and faced Bonvehí, and the former mayor of Montblanc (Tarragona) Josep Andreu, who unsubscribed from ERC and who is one of the visible faces of the group Independentistes d’Esquerres.

Also on the list are the president of the JxCat group in the Parliament, Albert Batet, the leader of the JxCat in Congress, Laura Borràs, the deputy in the Parlament Gemma Geis or the Minister of Territory Damià Calvet, close to former prisoner imprisoned Josep Rull, who ruled himself out for directing to dedicate the time he has out of prison to his family.

Likewise, Aurora Madaula, a JxCat deputy in Parliament and spokesperson for the Acció per la República collective, and the mayor of Girona, Marta Madrenas, also appear on the official list.

The list is completed by the Secretary General of the Call, Antoni Morral; Maria Àngels Cabasés, Violant Cervera, Francesc Colomé, Jordi Fàbrega, Joaquim Jubert, Irene Negre, Marcel Padrós, Mònica Sales and Aleix Sarri.

There will be in the votes from August 7 to 9 a second candidacy, without names of brilliance, led by Josep Sort, leader of Reagrupament, and that incorporates as secretary of organization Enric Solé, and Maria Teresa Vilarrassa as secretary of finance.

Reagrupament Independentista is a current initially founded by ex-seller Joan Carretero and favorable to the unilateral path towards independence, which spun off from ERC and which in 2013 signed a collaboration agreement with the Convergence led by Artur Mas.

On Friday 24, Reagrupament announced that it was disconnected from the PDeCAT and went on to support Junts per Catalunya.

The rest of the members of the national executive that incorporated the Reagrupament list could not be validated “by default by form,” according to a JxCat statement.
