Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), Aug 2 (EFE) .- The British Scott Redding (Ducati) claimed this Sunday his second victory of the weekend in the premier category of the Superbike World Championship, which took place in the Jerez-Ángel Nieto Circuit.
Redding took first place in the race, like on Saturday, ahead this time of his teammate, the Welshman Chaz Davies, in the first double of Ducati since 2012, then achieved at the Dutch circuit in Assen.
In another stifling hot day, Redding consolidates his leadership in the Superbike World Championship, after winning Race 2 of the ‘Round Pirelli’ in Spain with a new pilot exhibition.
After releasing his record of victories in the first round on Saturday, and signing the second position in the race ‘Tissot Superpole’ this Sunday morning, the English rookie has starred in a seamless performance in the last test of the weekend for the queen category and has added its second success of the 2020 campaign.
His teammate, Chaz Davies, rounded off with a second position on Sunday, with Turkish Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) adding a new podium with his third position.
In this same category, the current world champion, the Northern Irishman Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki), took the victory in the ‘Tissot Superpole’, making him second overall in the World Cup with 74 points behind Redding, who add 98.
The Spanish Ana Carrasco (Kawasaki), meanwhile, finished second in the Supersport 300 category, in the second test of the weekend, after having fought for victory in a tight final.
Carrasco, who led the race on a few laps, climbed to second place, having entered third place, by the disqualification of Italian De Cancellis in a race won by Turkish Bahattin Sofuoglu (Yamaha).
The 2018 world champion of the specialty completed a good weekend for Spanish motorcycling in this category, after Unai Orradre’s victory on Saturday in the first race.
In a very tight general classification, Orradre is tied with Sofuoglu with 35 points in second place, one of the leader, the British Tom Booth Amos, who has 36. Murcia Ana Carrasco is fourth with 29 points.
In Supersport, the second victory of the weekend for the Italian Andrea Locatelli Yamaha), leader of the category with 75 points.
