The Immobile Golden Shoe equals Higuain’s goal record in Serie A

Rome, Aug 1 (EFE) .- Ciro Immobile, Lazio forward and Golden Boot 2020, scored a goal this Saturday in the defeat suffered by his team against Naples (3-1) and, with his thirty-sixth target, equaled the record held by the Argentine Gonzalo Higuaín since 2016.

Immobile arrived at the San Paolo in Naples and sure of being the new Golden Boot, since the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, the only one with some options to catch up with him, was not called up with Juventus for the match on the last day of the Serie A lost to the Rome.

This Saturday, while Higuaín scored a goal in Juventus’ defeat against Roma, Immobile took the field at San Paolo, the stadium where he dreamed of playing in his childhood, and signed in minute 22 the target number 36 of his unforgettable season.

He did it with a goal of great number 9, when he finished off a center from the Montenegrin Adam Marusic, shortly after the Spanish Fabián Ruiz overtook Napoli with a shot of his left foot from the front of the area.

He did not manage to put the icing on the duel with the goal that would give him the solo record and Naples ended up triumphing in the second half thanks to a penalty scored by Italian Lorenzo Insigne and Matteo Politano.

Despite that, it is still a record of enormous prestige for Immobile, who had a lackluster time in Seville in 2015, finishing with four goals in fifteen games. Now, share this great record with Higuaín.

The Pipita, then a player of Naples and current number 21 of the Juventus Turin champion of Italy, sealed that record with a memorable triplet to Frosinone, culminated with a spectacular Chilean.

He came to that match with 33 goals and, after leaving for the break without being able to score, scored three goals in twenty minutes to unleash the euphoria of the San Paolo fans. The level of its benefits convinced Juventus a few months later to sign him for 90 million euros, at that time the record for spending in the history of “Calcio”.

The target scored this Saturday by Immobile was number 17 away from home and no one ever scored so many in Serie A.

In addition, thirteen years after Francesco Totti won the Golden Boot with Roma, Immobile returned a Golden Boot to Italy, arriving ahead of Pole Robert Lewandowski in the table.

The Bayern Munich striker finished the Bundesliga with 34 goals and Cristiano Ronaldo finished his Serie A with 31.
