Berlin: Big demo against government corona policy

Thousands of people protested against the corona measures in Berlin on Saturday with a demonstration train. The police assumed around 15,000 participants in the afternoon.

Despite the increasing number of infections, the demonstrators campaigned for an end to all conditions. According to the police, the hygiene requirements such as distance and mouth-nose protection were not observed. The police, however, proceeded with communicative measures such as loudspeaker announcements or individual speeches.

Police dissolve rally after demo: hygiene regulations not complied with

The police have dissolved the rally from opponents of state corona requirements in Berlin. The organizers were unable to comply with the hygiene measures, said a police spokesman for the German Press Agency.

At the rally, around 20,000 people gathered on Saturday, June 17, near the Brandenburg Gate, according to police.

Start of free corona tests for return travelers

In the fight against the spread of the corona virus over the summer travel season, voluntary tests are to be launched on a broad front for vacation returnees.

Since Saturday, all immigrants can have themselves tested free of charge within 72 hours of arrival in Germany without any signs of illness. This is laid down in a regulation by Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU). This should be possible, for example, in test stations at airports, in health offices and medical practices. Ultimately, the state bears the costs.

Violations of corona rules: Altmaier wants tougher punishments

The number of new infections in Germany continues to rise

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the health authorities in Germany reported 955 new corona infections within one day.

This means that the daily case numbers remain at a high level. Since the onset of the Corona crisis, at least 209 653 people in Germany have been shown to be infected with the Sars-CoV-2 virus, as the RKI reported on the Internet on Saturday morning (data status 1.8., 0.00 a.m.).

Economists warn of another lockdown

Leading economists have expressed concern about the increased number of daily corona infections. “A second wave could be economically more damaging than the first wave because many companies are hit, have high debts and hardly any reserves,” said Marcel Fratzscher, President of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), the “Rheinische Post” (Saturday ).
