The Mexican authorities arrested José Antonio Yépez, known as “El Marro”, the main leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel and one of the most wanted men in that country.
He was captured in the state of Guanajuato, in central Mexico, along with five other people.
“‘El Marro’ has been captured. In a coordinated operation of federal and state forces, his capture has been finalized and the release of a kidnapped businesswoman has been achieved, “announced the Attorney General of the State of Guanajuato.

Federal Security Secretary Alfonso Durazo said that Yépez would be transferred in the next few hours to the Altiplano maximum security prison and will answer to a judge for “organized crime and theft of fuel.”
In recent weeks, the Mexican authorities carried out important operations against the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel, whose main source of income is fuel theft, a practice known in Mexico as “huachicoleo”.
Last June, the mother, sister and cousin of “El Marro” were arrested and placed in preventive detention.
