Rome, August 2. (askanews) – Fifteen months after the start of construction work on the new Genoa Bridge, Webuild and Fincantieri give the “keys” of the work to the Mayor of Genoa and Extraordinary Commissioner for the Marco Bucci Bridge. Once the finishing works on the upper part of the Bridge have been completed, the Static Test Certificate has been issued with a favorable outcome, then the viability inspection has been carried out to allow the opening to traffic, with the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding, the Bridge will pass by the Structure Commissioner to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and then to the Concessionaire who, taking charge of the infrastructure, will proceed with opening the operation. Webuild and Fincantieri communicate it.
Webuild and Fincantieri have provided all the technical and quality documentation that traces a year marked by the construction of the 1,067 meters of the bridge, with the 18 stacks up to 45 meters high that support the work, with the 19 decks and 67 thousand cubic meters of concrete . A very demanding job carried out for approximately 420 days in total from the positioning of the first pole to the Delivery to the Commissioner, over 10,100 hours of work, every day except for the Christmas holiday and the block days due to the prohibitive weather conditions. A work on shifts for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, carried out by over 1000 people of 40 different professions engaged in some moments in twenty parallel construction sites to continue tirelessly, even during the Covid health emergency, the work of the operates flag of the country. All the people who took part in this venture have their name engraved on the bronze plaque unveiled during the concert of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, on July 27, blessed by the Archbishop of Genoa Mons. Marco Tasca, which will be hoisted on one of the batteries.
The last days of work – which did not stop even during the Concert of the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale Santa Cecilia conducted by Maestro Antonio Pappano on July 27 – have seen the construction site engaged in the laying of the wear layer (the layer of asphalt more surface, 4 cm high), in the installation of the horizontal and vertical signs and of the robotic system which will verify the state of integrity of the infrastructure and allow to intervene with any preventive maintenance actions.
The latest secondary activities that do not impact the viability of the new Ponte San Giorgio will continue on the ground, ready to be inaugurated in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Monday 3 August.
