It was not going well for Sebastian Vettel again.
In qualifying for the British Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver only just finished tenth. Far too little for the demands of a four-time world champion (Formula 1, Great Britain Grand Prix, Sun., from 3.10 p.m. in LIVETICKER).
In the third qualifying section, the 33-year-old had strayed from the track. As a result, his fastest lap was canceled. Vettel was not too sad about it. “Then I would have ended up ninth instead of tenth,” he stated with consternation.
Many problems with the car from Vettel
But the ride off the track was not the first thing that was suboptimal on this race weekend. Already on Friday there was a problem with the German racing car. First there was a leak in the charge air cooling, then a loose brake pedal caused trouble. (Formula 1 racing calendar 2020)
There was not much time to test and get used to it, and that should take revenge in qualifying. “I never found the rhythm, and that’s important at Silverstone. The car was fine, but it didn’t want what I wanted.”

Ferrari at Silverstone faster than before
Vettel fans and conspiracy theorists see the fact that Vettel has to deal with significantly more problems with the car, a preference of the Monegasque by the Scuderia. Vettel didn’t want to know about that. “It was a coincidence and not a bad intention. Something like that happened. My problem was that I lost so much time. It didn’t help to get out of the car what is obviously in it,” said the four-time world champion.
The speed measurements showed that there is obviously more to the Ferrari racing car than in previous races. The Ferrari on the Silverstone Circuit was not as hopelessly far away as on the first three weekends. At an average of 2.5 km / h less, the gap on the Silver Arrows was even comparatively moderate.

And the fact that Leclerc finished fourth, only a tenth behind Verstappen, gives the mechanics in Maranello hope.
Vettel starts from tenth
Vettel, however, could not benefit from the improved top speed. In addition, he always lost time, especially in the fast corners compared to his teammate.
“Tomorrow we are on the wrong tire at the end of the line, at the end of the top 10. It will not be a snap,” said the 33-year-old after qualifying.
However, the fact that he has to go into the race with the soft instead of the medium tires should only be a minor annoyance for the German: “I’m relatively confident that tomorrow will be better. How much I don’t know, I can’t do anything promise, but it can’t get much worse. “
