Fans know that 365 DNI (365 Days) is inspired by the book of the same name by Blanka Lipińska. However, the history of erotic drama can hide a dark inspiration.
The successful Netflix movie is set against the backdrop of a brutal real-life history in Italy. There, in a year of the 1970s, 75 people were kidnapped.
This started a terrible phenomenon in the country, leading to more than 700 kidnappings in three decades. As is known, this crime is the starting point of 365 DNI.
Laura is kidnapped by mobster Massimo. With that, he gives her 365 days to fall in love – from this story come the hot scenes from the Netflix movie.
In the European country, the kidnappings came mainly from two organizations. One was the Famiglia Montalbano and the other was Cosa Nostra, from Sicily, of which Massimo is a part of 365 DNI.
The Netflix movie story is not based on a specific case – but, if fans notice, it brings together the big picture of that sad story. The kidnappings had as main victims rich middle-aged men, as well as women and children.
Victims could be held hostage for days or years. In addition, they could be tortured and even killed.
The choice of Italy in 365 DNI (365 Days) should not be a coincidence. In the middle of the mentioned history, there are tragic and remarkable cases involving women.
One is from 1975, when 19-year-old Cristina Mazzotti, the daughter of a businessman, was drugged to death. Drugs were given while criminals negotiated with her family.
Just two years after the tragic case, Italy peaked. In 1977, 75 kidnappings were recorded.
Within these cases, the one with the longest time is Carlo Celadon, from 1988. The then 19-year-old was held hostage for 831 days.
Cases continued to be recorded during the 2000s. From them, criminal organizations became the biggest threats in the European country.
“Laura was kidnapped by a mobster. Now, she has 365 days to fall in love with him, ”says the synopsis of the Netflix movie.
