Aldi will open more than 20 supermarkets in Portugal next year
The German brand plans to build more logistics centers in the country in order to supply the various stores.
Aldi’s expansion plan in Portugal continues. The German supermarket chain arrived in the country 14 years ago and currently has 80 stores from north to south. In 2021, this number will pass 100, since the brand is expected to open another 25 spaces in the coming months.
The goal is to be present in the vast majority of districts in Portugal. The new supermarkets enter geographical areas not yet explored by the chain, may include new formats and even reach more urban centers.
The expansion is not only done with stores. By the beginning of 2022, a logistics area in Moita with 50 thousand square meters will be completed, which corresponds to an investment of 60 million euros. To the north, the creation of such a structure is also planned. The location is not yet defined, but it should be completed by the end of 2025. In this case, there will be an investment of 45 million.
The chain has two thousand employees in Portugal, a number that will increase with the opening of new stores and logistics centers.
