Alliance. Santana already has a successor. It also came from PSD

The former councilor of Torres Vedras Paulo Bento replaces this Sunday Pedro Santana Lopes as president of the Aliança party after the election at the congress that ended in that city in the district of Lisbon.

Paulo Bento, who was a PSD activist before joining the Alliance and worked with Santana Lopes at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Lisbon, took advantage of the closing of the congress to ask the “non-socialist” parties to become an alternative to the PS in future elections.

In the closing speech of the congress, Paulo Bento defended that “the way is, in conjunction with efforts to serve the country”, that the parties present themselves to the electorate as an alternative to the socialists.

As for the presidential elections, the new leader of the Alliance sent a decision after the first meeting of the Senate, the highest body between congresses.

Paulo Bento warned that, in the “exceptional situation” that the country is going through because of the covid-19 pandemic, “you cannot have people who do not enjoy the National Health Service”, defended the security forces, said that it is fundamental ” resolve regional asymmetries “in the country and considered it necessary” to create conditions for companies to create wealth and distribute it better “.

During the congress, militants António Pedro, Bruno Ferreira Costa, Alexandre Nascimento and Paulo Bento presented motions of strategy, assuming themselves as candidates for the presidency.
