Aras asks Supreme Court to investigate Joice Hasselmann

Augusto Aras asked the Supreme Court to open an investigation about Congresswoman Joice Hasselmann (PSL-SP). She is suspected of using cabinet officials to create fake profiles and spread fake news against opponents on social media.

In the request for an inquiry, the PGR says that there are indications of the practice of crimes of illegal constraint, due to the alleged constraint of the advisors, through a serious threat, to create false profiles; defamation, for imputing offensive facts to third parties; ideological falsehood, due to the suspicion of using false CPFs to create profiles; and criminal association.

The request was based on representation from the Federal Police and on crime news presented by Carla Zambelli (PSL-SP), a former ally and today broken with Joice.

The request cites messages that Joice would have sent to subordinates in the Chamber. One of them says: “Put all the profiles to work on Twitter making positive comments about my candidacy for the city”.

The rapporteur of the request at the STF, Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, asked for more steps before deciding whether to open the investigation formally. He considered that there was still no clear evidence in the request submitted by the PGR.
