Argentina exceeds 18,000 covid-19 deaths after data adjustments

Buenos Aires, 26 Sep 2020 (AFP) – The province of Buenos Aires revealed on Friday (25) that deaths by covid-19 in the district are almost 3,500 more than what had been previously reported, due to the delay in the data recording, which brings the total number of deaths in Argentina to more than 18,000.

“This delay, which occurs, especially in times of a pandemic, is a global problem”, declared Buenos Aires Minister of Health Daniel Gollán at a news conference, explaining that the new records arise from the crossing of three databases.

Thus, although the national health agency reported 443 new deaths on Friday, for a total of 15,208 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, there are still 3,459 deaths that have not yet been recorded in the National Health System.

With this new number, the total death toll in Argentina is 18,667.

The country also registered 12,969 new cases of contamination on Friday, for a total of 691,222 in a population of 44 million inhabitants.

The Argentine government has put in place health restriction measures since March 20, but with some flexibility in regions, according to the evolution of the contamination.
