In 2020, Atlantic e Miner have strengthened a relationship that has had several comings and goings in recent years. There, the alvinegra team accumulates ten consecutive victories and, although it cannot count on the fans – a reflection of the pandemic of COVID-19 -, manages to impose itself in most games. For this reason, the board decided that the stadium should continue as a white house for the next matches.
The contract in force between Atltico and Minas Arena, responsible for managing Mineiro, is near the end. Signed in July, the agreement established that the team would send the next ten matches to the stadium. Only two remain: against Basque e Gois, on October 4th and 10th, respectively.

However, negotiations to extend the link are well under way. The expectation was that the new agreement would be signed this Tuesday. However, the meeting between representatives of the club and Minas Arena was postponed to this Thursday.

The tendency is that the new contract defines yet another “package” of games from Atl├óntico as principal in Mineiro. Even before the agreement was signed, the club communicated Confederao Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) that it will use the stadium for at least three more matches of Series A, against Fluminense, Sport and Flamengo.

In the Atlantic board, the main enthusiast of the permanence in Mineiro is the president Srgio Sette Cmara. There were two most relevant factors that led the black and white dome to decide to continue in the stadium: the coach (since the team has not lost as principal since February) and the financial.

Behind the scenes of Brazilian football, the public is already considering returning to the games of Series A. According to the current proposal, 30% of the total stadium capacity would be released. In Mineiro, the percentage corresponds to 18,567 fans, compared to 6,840 in the Independence. Therefore, the board calculates that it can multiply the revenue if it continues to send the matches in Pampulha.

There is still no definition on the date of the fans’ return to the stadiums. Meeting last weekend, clubs and CBF understood that it is not yet the moment. The expectation of the entity that the bleachers return to receive fans in November, in the first round of the return. In the case of Atltico, it would be a confrontation with Flamengo.
