Audi decided to unveil the new A3 40 TFSIe, the first plug-in hybrid variant of the German model. With a look extremely similar to the pure combustion versions, with the exception of the new loading inlet and standard 16-inch wheels, the main novelty happens under the hood. Equipped with the 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, combined with an electric propeller, it delivers a total of 204 combined horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. With these values, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is done in 7.6 seconds, while the maximum speed is 227 km / h.
However, one of the main strengths of this motorization is the electric range. Equipped with a 13 kWh battery, practically 48% bigger compared to its predecessor, it allows to travel up to 67 kilometers (WLTP cycle), according to the brand. This represents an increase of approximately 20 km when compared to the previous one. When it comes time to charge, the A3 40 TFSIe takes about four hours to charge in a domestic outlet, but it can also be charged at a public charging station.
Although the interior is substantially the same as in the combustion versions, the infotainment system receives some specific functions for this plug-in hybrid variant, such as infographics with the flow of energy. Finally, the 40 TFSIe should reach European markets in 2020, but the date of arrival in Portugal remains to be confirmed.
