The Brazilian economy generated 249,388 formal jobs in August, informed on Wednesday (30) the Ministry of Economy.

According to the government, the result was “driven by the increase in hires that have continued to grow since May”.

Last month, 1,239,478 formal workers were hired and 990,090 were laid off.

This was the second consecutive month of generation of formal jobs and, also, the best result for months of August since 2010, that is, in ten years.

In the first eight months of this year, according to information from the Ministry of Economy, the layoffs exceeded hiring in 849,387 formal jobs.

The layoffs reflect the impact of the new coronavirus pandemic on the Brazilian labor market, which has pushed the world economy into a severe recession. In recent months, however, domestic activity level indicators indicate a recovery in the economy.

According to the Ministry of Economy, it was registered creation of formal vacancies in the five regions of the country last month.

  • Southeast: +104,702 vacancies
  • Northeast: +62,085 posts
  • On the: +42,664 vacancies
  • North: +22,272 posts
  • Midwest: +17,684 vacancies

At the same time, according to official data, all states, and the Federal District, recorded a positive balance in August. São Paulo led the opening of vacancies, with 64,552 jobs, followed by Minas Gerais (+28,339 jobs) and Santa Catarina with (+18,375 formal jobs).
