Brazil surpassed 140 thousand deaths caused by Covid-19 (140,537), after having recorded 729 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the epidemiological bulletin released this Friday by the Ministry of Health.
In the same period, the country recorded 31,911 cases of the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of infected people to 4,689,613.
The Brazilian executive also informed that 4,040,949 people have already recovered from the disease and another 508,127 remain under monitoring.
The states of São Paulo (34,877), Rio de Janeiro (18,166), Ceará (8,891) and Pernambuco (8,129) have the highest number of deaths due to the new coronavirus in the South American country.
Considering the number of cases, São Paulo (964,921), Bahia (303,058), Minas Gerais (283,479) and Rio de Janeiro (259,488) are the ones that add up to more infections.
Despite leading in the number of confirmed deaths and cases, the government of São Paulo today announced the closure of the activities of the last field hospital created to treat patients infected by covid-19, which should take place on Saturday, after five months in operation.
The governor of São Paulo, João Doria, justified the decision with the statistics of new hospitalizations, which registered a decrease for nine consecutive weeks, and with the daily average of deaths caused by the new coronavirus in the state, which reached the lowest rate since May .
The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 984,068 deaths and around 32.3 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
