A 93-year-old man could not resist the worsening symptoms caused by COVID-19 and died in Sete Lagoas, a municipality located in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. The confirmation of the death was disclosed in the municipal epidemiological bulletin this Saturday (19). He was admitted to the Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graas and died on Friday (18).

With this case, the city already has 42 deaths. This Saturday (19), the Municipal Health Secretariat registered 42 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, 25 women and 17 men, bringing the total number of positive patients to 2,361 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Among these cases, 14 are of patients who are hospitalized, 92 people are in isolation at home with mild symptoms and 2,213 have already recovered.

This Saturday the city has 733 people with flu-like symptoms being monitored, 1,380 who have had their follow-up completed and 8,215 who have been tested and tested negative for COVID-19.

Disease progress through neighborhoods

This Saturday’s epidemiological bulletin also disclosed the list of neighborhoods with the highest number of confirmed cases. Regarding the last survey, on August 29, the three neighborhoods with the highest number of infected people remained: Progresso, Jardim Arizona and Centro.

However, JK was the neighborhood that registered the greatest advance for COVID-19 in the last 20 days. The growth of new cases was 61%, from 46 positive at the end of August to the current 74. This data is partly explained by the greater number of people in bars and pubs that exist in the neighborhood and the concern of people with the use of masks and protocol distancing.

In Progresso, first on the list, the increase in cases was 17.5%, with 14 new records in the last 20 days. In Jardim Arizona the increase was 39% and, in the Center, the growth was 37%

The Boa Vista neighborhood, famous for having one of the seven lagoons in the city and a stronghold of hikers, also draws attention in the study. In the last three weeks, 25 new cases of the disease were registered, going from 51 records in August to 76 in the last survey, an increase of 50%.
