Covid-19 pandemic leaves more than 139,000 victims in Brazil


The pandemic of the new coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 caused more than 139 thousand deaths in all Brazil, informed the National Council of Secretaries of Health (Conass) this Thursday (24).

The new balance sheet reveals that 831 people lost their lives within 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 139,808, with a fatality rate of 3%.

Also according to Conass, the country accounts for 4,657,702 cases of Covid-19, 32,817 of which were diagnosed between yesterday and today. The mortality rate is 66.5 citizens per 100 thousand inhabitants.

Although the numbers show a slowdown in the number of cases and deaths from the disease, experts still consider that the pandemic is on the rise and, therefore, Brazilians need to maintain protective measures. The seven-day moving average of cases fell from 29,400 to 28,902, while death remained at 696.

São Paulo continues with the highest number of contaminations. Since the beginning of the pandemic in Brazil, the region has registered 958,240 cases and 34,677 deaths.

In the ranking of states with the most cases, Bahia (301,248), Minas Gerais (278,901), Rio de Janeiro (257,985), Ceará (237,108) and Pará (224,302) also appear.

Regarding deaths, Rio de Janeiro is in second place, with 18,037 victims. Following are: Ceará (8,882), Pernambuco (8,110), Minas Gerais (6,983), Pará (6,502) and Bahia (6,455). The state of Rio de Janeiro, however, remains with the highest lethality rate, 7%.
