Canadian cyclist Nigel Ellsay (Rally Cycling) and a yellow flag were in a “serious” state after being involved in a fall in the second leg of the Tour to Portugal, this Tuesday.
Ellsay hit the yellow flag, which was signaling at the first kilometers of the strip, which connects Paredes to the top of Senhora da Graça, in Mondim de Basto. Both were transported to the Padre Américo Hospital – Vale do Sousa, in Penafiel.
A source from the Volta organization told the Lusa agency that the prognosis for both is “serious”. The two ambulances accompanying the race were removed from the stage and the race doctor accompanied one of the injured. Later, two other ambulances joined the test caravan.
Ellsay thus becomes the first to give up on the special 2020 edition of the Volta.
