Education Minister apologizes for speech on homosexuality

Education Minister Milton Ribeiro released a note on Saturday (26) asking for “sincere apologies” for the statements about homosexuality in an interview with Estadão last week. The demonstration took place after the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) asked to open an investigation with the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to determine whether there was a crime of homophobia. In the text, the minister affirms that the speech was taken out of context, said that he never wanted to “discriminate or encourage any form of discrimination due to sexual orientation” and, in the face of Christian values, asks “sincere apologies to those who were offended”. The minister closed the note saying that he respects the “sexual orientation, political or religious position” of every Brazilian citizen.
