The number of covid-19 cases continues to increase in Flamengo. On Friday, nine more club employees, including three athletes, were diagnosed with the virus. Thus, Rubro-Negro will submit a new request to postpone the game against Palmeiras, scheduled for this Sunday, at 4 pm (Brasília time).
Flamengo’s lawyer, in contact with the newspaper Extra, confirmed the new cases and said that not postponing the match is “insanity”. Michel Assef said he is in contact with a person from the Superior Court of Sports Justice to request reconsideration.
The first request for the postponement was made last Thursday. The club filed for urgent relief at the STJD. However, on Friday, the entity denied the request, claiming that “the private and selfish interest of the Requesting Club cannot prevail to the detriment of the Competition itself and consequently of the collective of Associations that integrate them”.
With these three new cases (Noga, Pepe and Rodrigo Muniz), Flamengo reached 19 infected athletes. In total, 36 people linked to the team tested positive.
If the new request is also not accepted, Flamengo will face Palmeiras this Sunday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at Allianz Parque, for the 12th round of the Brazilian Championship.
