On September 25, King Harald (83) was admitted to Rikshospitalet in Oslo due to heavy breathing. It was ruled out early that the king was affected by the coronavirus, and he was examined for breathing problems.
Since then, King Harald has been hospitalized and on sick leave from his royal duties, which means that Crown Prince Haakon (47) has taken care of the king’s work duties.
On Monday afternoon, NTB informs that King Harald has been discharged from the hospital. However, they had not received confirmation from the Palace, but referred to pictures of King Harald who was sitting in the back seat of a black car that was observed driving out of Rikshospitalet, Monday.
Shortly after NTB announced that King Harald had been discharged, the castle itself confirmed that this was true in a new press release on its website.
– His Majesty the King has been discharged from Rikshospitalet, it is stated in the press release.
The castle further informs that the hospital continues the investigation, and points out that King Harald is still on sick leave until 4 October.
Visit by Sonja
On the day the king was admitted to the hospital, he should actually have visited Maihaugen in Lillehammer together with Queen Sonja (83), where they were scheduled to visit the queen’s childhood home.
Sonja thus had to complete the visit without her husband, but earlier the same day she showed up to visit King Harald at the hospital. The queen was observed driving to the emergency room at Rikshospitalet, and was escorted to the hospital without being seen.
See and Hear royal house expert Anders Johan Stavseng stated at the time that it will take a long time before the king cancels his royal assignments.
– Today, as I said, it was both the Minister and Sonja’s childhood home on Maihaugen, so he had probably really looked forward to this day. So something has probably happened here that those around them, or the king himself, have decided that a further check is needed here, he said the same day as the king was admitted.
The day before the inauguration, the king was quick and quick when he debarked the Royal Norwegian Ship together with Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon, which may have indicated that the king’s inauguration was not planned in advance.
Admitted earlier this year
King Harald was admitted to the same hospital in January this year. At that time, the admission was justified by dizziness.
“His Majesty King Harald was admitted to Rikshospitalet today due to dizziness. No serious illness has been found “, it was said in the statement from the royal house at the time.
While King Harald was ill, it was Crown Prince Haakon who stepped in for his father, and served as regent.
– Thanks for your consideration. The king is recovering, and expects to be back home from the hospital again during this week. According to the conditions good. He was dizzy and unwell, that was the reason he came to the hospital. It has been a difficult period. But we try so hard to take care of each other, the Crown Prince told the press shortly before the king was ousted in January.
King Harald was also reported sick before Christmas last year, then due to a viral infection. On Christmas Eve, he was discharged, and celebrated Christmas with the royal family as planned.
