Called “sloppy” by Lance Stroll for the accident on the first lap of the Russian GP, Charles Leclerc explained why he hit the Canadian’s car. The Ferrari Monegasque claimed that he lost grip on the front of the car and therefore was unable to avoid the touch. Despite this, Leclerc, who was not punished, did not apologize to the Racing Point opponent.

– I tried to put Lance inside curve 4. Then, in the middle of the curve, Perez took the vertex. When I was behind him, I left the front a little and then we made contact with Lance – said Leclerc to the website “RaceFans.net”.

Despite the shock, Leclerc’s car was undamaged, while Stroll hit the wall and abandoned the race. The Monegasque managed to take the Ferrari car to sixth place:

– On Friday, I had a terrible job on the car, especially during the tire and pace race simulation. So, I didn’t expect to make such a smooth journey. It was a very good surprise. Sixth place was definitely the best we could do.

Ironically, Leclerc and Stroll are tied in the championship standings, in seventh place, with 57 points, but the Monegasque has an advantage in the tie by having a second place in Austria as the best result.
