The acquisition of video game distributor ZeniMax Media by Microsoft was recently revealed, in what can be considered a strong attack by the American giant in the field of video games.
This is because ZeniMax Media is the distributor of several extremely successful games.
This is very important news and is closely related to Microsoft's strategy for the times to come.
Among the development teams represented by ZeniMax and whose games are distributed by it, are the well-known Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, Arkane Studios, Machine Games and ZeniMax Online Studios.
If we keep in mind that, these studios have developed over the years games like, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, The Elder Scrolls Online, Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, QUAKE, Dishonored, Dishonored 2 or Wolfenstein: The New Order.
It is an extensive list of good games which represents more than confirmed quality of these studios.
What this means is that with this acquisition, in theory Microsoft will have a portfolio of games distribution with a lot of quality, but, above all, future games that may be developed.
Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will acquire ZeniMax Media for $ 7.5 billion in cash.
More than 3 billion people play video games, whether for fun, competition or an escape from everyday reality, or just to connect with other players.
The global phenomenon of video games has made it the fastest growing entertainment medium in the world - an industry with over $ 200 billion in annual profit in 2021.
We cannot forget yet that the launch of the Xbox Series X is just around the corner and Microsoft has been showing a great urgency to present value added exclusives and create value added partnerships.
Games are the main growth engine in the video game industry, capable of fueling new cloud-gaming services such as the Xbox Game Pass, which has reached a new mark of more than 15 million subscribers.
“This is a fantastic time to be an Xbox fan. Over the past 10 years, we revealed two consoles (one of which you can pre-book), we launched the Cloud service on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and now we are making another major investment in a critical area of our strategy: games.”Revealed Phil Spencer who added“Several generations of players have been playing the various games in Bethesda's portfolio and will certainly continue to do so, but now part of the Xbox.”
With the inclusion of Bethesda, Microsoft will grow from 15 to 23 creative studio teams, adding Bethesda's most iconic games to the Xbox Game Pass. This includes Microsoft's intention to bring all future Bethesda games to the Xbox Game Pass on the same day they are released for Xbox or PC.
And behold, Microsoft is back to launch a strong card!
