The United States and China directed harsh attacks at each other during a meeting on the corona crisis in the UN Security Council on Thursday.
– Enough is enough. You have caused enough trouble for the world already, said China’s UN Ambassador Zhang Jun.
The meeting took place via video link and was held in connection with the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly. The theme was international cooperation in the wake of the corona crisis.
Zhang’s verbal attack on the United States came in response to the United States’ harsh criticism of China. President Donald Trump said in a UN speech earlier this week that China “unleashed this plague on the world.”
The Chinese UN ambassador pointed out that more than 200,000 corona-infected people have died in the United States, despite the country’s high-tech healthcare system.
“If anyone is to be held accountable, it is some American politicians,” Zhang said.
Earlier during the Security Council meeting, US Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft went down the drain on both China and Russia.
– You should be ashamed. I react with astonishment and disgust at the content of today’s discussion, she said.
Kelly accused other members of the council of spending time on political attacks rather than the important issue on the agenda.
Prior to this, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had criticized countries that blamed others for their own internal problems.
