Five states are facing a new outbreak of coronavirus. Amapá, Amazon, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro e Roraima the number of deaths increased in the last seven days, compared to the average of the previous two weeks, according to a survey carried out by G1. In Brazil, deaths from coronavirus fell by 2% in the same period.
Rio and Roraima have the highest death rates per 100 thousand inhabitants, 105.7 and 105.2, respectively, according to data from the Ministry of Health. Cariocas still face an aggravating factor: the hospital bed occupancy rate is 79 %. If the number of cases continues to increase, the state may suffer a hospital blackout.
Despite the worrying figures, the acting governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro (in office after Wilson Witzel’s departure), maintains the opening plan. On Wednesday 23, he published a decree authorizing the presence of fans in football stadiums.
Clubs must respect the maximum capacity of 30% of the total capacity of the stadiums, with a distance of at least two meters between people, except family groups. In addition, it will be mandatory to use a face mask, temperature measurement and screening of respiratory symptoms at the time of access to the stadium, the supply of 70% gel alcohol to all the fans present.
In Amazonas, the attitude has been different. Governor Wilson Lima considers closing bars, beaches, concert halls again and limiting restaurant opening hours. “Our specialists at the Health Surveillance Foundation do not see a moment of second wave and explosion of cases, as we have peace of mind with the state public network regarding covid-19,” said the governor, in an interview with CBN radio.
In Roraima, deaths have doubled in the past week. The State already records 637 deaths and 49,681 cases, for a population of 631,181 people, according to IBGE data.
In Brazil, the daily moving average of deaths by covid-19, which records fluctuations in the last seven days and eliminates distortions between a high number of midweek and low weekend, stood at 697 this Saturday, 26. In the last 24 hours, Brazil had 25,536 new cases and 732 deaths.
Altogether there are 4,718,115 people infected and 141,441 killed by coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, according to data from the consortium of the media, formed by Estadão, G1, O Globo, Extra, Folha and UOL, and done together with the secretariats State Health.
This Saturday, São Paulo recorded 35,063 deaths and 970,888 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus. It is the state with the highest number of cases in the country.
