The application of the vaccine against covid-19 no state of Sao Paulo is scheduled to start on December 15th by the Unified Health System (SUS). The date was informed by the governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), this Wednesday, 30. The first immunized will be health professionals.

The governor stressed that, to comply with the schedule, it is still necessary to complete the testing phase – which should occur within 30 days – and obtain authorization from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

The initial forecast was to vaccinate the entire population of the state of São Paulo until February 2021, but this Wednesday the government extended the deadline and believes that this process should last until the end of March. Two doses will be applied in an interval of 14 days.

“We will respect all testing and approval procedures at Anvisa. And then yes, the vaccination started on December 15, starting with health professionals. Doctors, nurses, paramedics, those who work in public, private hospitals and in all public, municipal and state health units. In the state of São Paulo, those who work in these units will be the first to be vaccinated against covid-19 ”.

said the governor at a news conference at Palácio dos Bandeirantes.

This Wednesday, the government of São Paulo and the Chinese laboratory Sinovac signed an agreement for the purchase of 46 million doses of the vaccine for the state, 6 million of which are ready and the other 40 million formulated by the Butantan Institute.

By February 2021 there will be another 14 million doses, totaling 60 million. The document also provides for the transfer of technology for Butantan to produce the vaccine in a factory that will be built.

Butantan’s director, Dimas Covas, said that next week he will meet with Anvisa to streamline the vaccine production process in Brazil. “China is very cooperative and we will work together so that any doubts are clarified and there is no delay in approving the vaccine,” he said.
