Marking the celebration of the anniversary of the National Vaccination Program, the director-general of Health, Graça Freitas revealed that, as of this Thursday, there are novelties in the vaccines included in the National Vaccination Plan.
During the joint conference of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) and the Ministry of Health, this Wednesday, Graça Freitas informed that the vaccine against meningitis will start, as of Thursday, to be applied to all children who were born in 2019 and 2020, which should be vaccinated at two, four and twelve months.
Another of the great novelties in the National Vaccination Plan is the administration of the HPV vaccine to boys. Graça Freitas explained that the priority now will be to vaccinate, in addition to girls, boys who were born in the first half of 2009.
The rotavirus vaccine is also included in the program, this is only for groups at risk, but will only begin to be administered in early December.
Graça Freitas also stressed that vaccination coverage rates remain high, after a break in the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, and stressed that she has high expectations for the new vaccines that make up the vaccination plan.
