Writer Paulo Coelho responds to Bolsonaro supporters who burned his books


“First bought, then burned,” wrote Paulo Coelho in his account in Twitter platform, commenting on a video in which a couple of Jair Bolsonaro supporters ripping and burning a book by Brazilian writer.

“And the guy’s mustache [vocabul├írio informal usado no Brasil para descrever pessoas do sexo masculino] he does not allow to hide the origin of the idea “, he added, in a historical allusion to the figure of Adolf Hitler.

Videos of people burning successful books by the Brazilian author, such as The Alchemist, published in 1988 and with more than 150 million copies sold in 70 languages, has proliferated in recent days among the followers of the Brazilian president.

In almost all the videos, Paulo Coelho is accused of being “communist”, “socialist” and “anti-patriot”, and is invited to live “in Cuba or Venezuela” due to his critical stance on Bolsonaro’s government.
