Researcher at Rakuten Securities Economic Research is very optimistic with Sony console

A market analyst very fan of Playstation made quite radical predictions about the future of the PS5. Norio Imanaka, gives Rakuten Securities Economic Research Institute, believes that Sony’s next-gen console will sell between 200 and 300 million units in just 5 or 6 years, and simply “exterminate” the competition. He estimates that until the end of its life, the PS5 can sell a total between 600 and 700 million units.

Takashi Mochizuki, a Bloomberg reporter, translated some of Imanaka’s statements, which appeared in an article published in Japanese. Mochizuki’s tweets highlight:

– PS5 can dominate the eSports scene
– Just like NBA fans look for Nike shoes, eSports fans will look for PS5
– Xbox games are “inferior” to Playstation exclusives
– eSports market is bigger than NBA and other sports because there is no limitation of spectators in a stadium

As we can see, much of Imanaka’s optimism comes from the potential with sports, where he believes the PS5 will stand out. He then makes a calculation summing up all the current PS4 players Р120 million Рwith the eSports player population, which would be 100 million, plus an estimated estimate of 400 million viewers who would also buy PS5. Of course, you can make several objections along this line, but the analyst seems very excited about the new console.

He still makes a point of writing in a way and using terms that are a dream for every internet user who loves to fight over video games. In another excerpt translated by Mochizuki he says:

– Continues after advertising –

The PS5 is moving into an entirely different dimension; so different from Switch, Xbox or even PS4. The PS5 could be the exterminator of the gaming industry, ending the long war between consoles. (…) The PS5 will be a completely new symbolic tower for the Sony Group.

A PS5 pre-order has already started and the video game, in fact, follows a very heated pace of sales, running out in store after store. But from there until the success predicted by the analyst, there is still a long way to go.

The console will be officially launched on November 12 and Imanaka will likely be one of the first in line.
