Bahia recorded 26 deaths and 2,460 new cases of covid-19 (growth rate of + 0.8%) in 24 hours, according to an epidemiological bulletin released by the State Health Secretariat (Sesab) in the late afternoon of this Wednesday (14). In the same period, 1,600 patients were considered cured (+ 0.5%).
With that, one day after registering the lowest number of active cases of the disease since May 16 (5,876), the number rose again and reached 6,710.
Of the 329,787 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic, 315,863 are already considered free of the disease.
For statistical purposes, state epidemiological surveillance considers a patient recovered 14 days after the onset of Covid-19 symptoms. Active cases are the result of the following calculation: number of total cases, less deaths, less recovered. Calculations are performed automatically.
Confirmed cases occurred in 417 municipalities in Bahia, with a greater proportion in Salvador (27.10%). The municipalities with the highest incidence rates per 100,000 inhabitants were: Ibirataia (7,347.18), Almadina (6,551.98), Itabuna (6,286.38), Madre de Deus (6,220.07), Apuarema (5,702.59).
The epidemiological bulletin also records 666,672 cases discarded and 76,243 under investigation. These data represent official notifications compiled by the Center for Strategic Information in Health Surveillance in Bahia (Cievs-BA), together with the municipal Cievs and the Ministry of Health databases until 5 pm on Wednesday (14).
In Bahia, 27,375 health professionals were confirmed for Covid-19. To access the full newsletter, click here or access Business Intelligence.
Today’s epidemiological bulletin counts 26 deaths that occurred on different dates, as shown in the table below. The existence of late records and / or accumulation of cases is due to the overload of the investigation teams, as there are diseases of compulsory notification in addition to the covid-19.
Another reason is the deepening of epidemiological investigations by the municipal and state surveillance in order to avoid distortions or misunderstandings, such as disregarding the cause of death, head trauma or terminal cancer, even if the person is infected with the coronavirus.
The total number of deaths by Covid-19 in Bahia since the beginning of the pandemic is 7,214, representing a lethality of 2.19%.
Among the deaths, 55.93% occurred in males and 44.07% in females. Regarding race and color, 54.14% corresponded to brown, followed by white with 17.41%, black with 15.15%, yellow with 0.79%, indigenous with 0.11% and there is no information in 12.39% of deaths. The percentage of cases with comorbidity was 72.12%, with a higher percentage of heart and chronic diseases (75.30%).
