The second beta weekend of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has started, and people have already found a way to cheat for victory.
Cheaters are inevitable in any game, with people willing to do anything to beat their opponent. Even in a game like Among Us, players have developed mods that allow them to ruin everyone’s experience.
Losing in a video game can be frustrating, especially if you are having a bad day or a series of consecutive losses. Players are sometimes willing to do anything to beat their opponents, without respecting justice.
Some players cheat to laugh at their opponents’ suffering and anger, while others do so to feel genuinely good about their “ability”. This is not the first game that Call of Duty has seen a hacker problem either, with Activision taking action against a cheat site for COD: Warzone.
Despite its recent release, hackers have already found their way into Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, as stated by Eurogamer. Players would record these cheaters and post them on social media like Reddit and Twitter, attracting the attention of thousands of people.
Hacking usually involves aimbotting, which gives the player perfect targeting, and wall hacks, which give the player the ability to see enemies through walls. There are usually ways for games to deal with hackers, usually through anti-cheat, but with the Call of Duty: Warzone active cheating problem still running rampant, Activision probably hasn’t had time to implement an anti- better cheat.
It can be difficult to develop anti-cheats for shooting games, as it is difficult to tell, using the code, whether a player is really good or just hacked.
Wallhacks, which are purely based on information, are almost impossible to detect, as there are many factors that can explain why a player knows an enemy’s position. Aimbotting can be detected, but many cheats have learned to make it switchable, allowing the user to turn it on and off at will.
This can make most of the game look like normal gameplay, with occasional inhuman movements. Valorant approaches the problem as a tactical sniper using a rootkit, which makes players suspicious about their privacy.
Still, Riot is so confident in its ability to detect hackers that it even offers a reward for anyone who can find exploits with it.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be released on November 13, 2020 for Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PC (via Battle Net) and PS4.
