Aboubakar spoke, for the first time, about his departure from FC Porto and the reasons that led him to decide to return to a club where Besiktas was happy in 2016/17. «It was my decision. What I said to those responsible for the club was this: I want to leave FC Porto. I can’t go another year without playing, I want to go out and buy some time », he reported.
The Cameroonian international played just nine games last season and scored two goals in the Europa League group G game against Young Boys. Knee injuries were a constant problem. Aboubakar confirmed a fact that was the subject of much discussion: Besiktas is free to terminate the footballer’s contract if the injury reappears and forces him to a new prolonged stop. «In case of relapse [da lesão] the club has the possibility to terminate my contract, yes ”, he admitted.
However, the Cameroonian guarantees that he has no remnants of the physical problems of the past. «It is true that I did not play for a long time, but I am no longer injured. I need time to get back to my previous shape, which is normal. I am spiritually ready to face the challenge and if the coach gives me the opportunity to play more I will be prepared. Goals? I scored two goals for FC Porto, making more games depends on him, not on me. »
Aboubakar has already played two matches for Besiktas, against Konyaspor, where he entered the second half, and Gençlerbirligi, in which he started and left in the 64th minute. «I had a very short story here. I’m back to writing the other part of the story that started a few years ago. I haven’t played in a while, but now I’m better. I had several offers, but I preferred Besiktas because it is my home. The most important thing is to contribute to the success of the team », said the Cameroonian.
