According to the covid-19 epidemiological situation bulletin in Brazil, released this Thursday (10/15), 28,523 new cases were registered within 24 hours. With the number, the country reaches 5,169,386 in the accumulated of confirmed cases. Regarding the number of deaths, 713 new deaths due to the new coronavirus were counted from fourth to fifth, accumulating 152,460 lives lost.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Health in relation to the 41st epidemiological week (referring to the period between 4 and 10 October) during a press conference, the contagion curve has been falling in the country. “In Brazil, we have already seen a tendency to drop new cases of covid-19 since week 34, 35; and, in the last week, we registered 175,804 cases ”, informed Arnaldo Medeiros, Secretary of Health Surveillance.

The secretary also pointed out a drop in the death curve: “When we analyzed it in the last week, there was a reduction of 8%; when we analyzed it in the last 14 days, there was a 14% reduction in the death record in the country as a whole ”.

Another issue that was highlighted at this Thursday’s press conference was the vaccination schedule against covid-19. After the Ministry of Health presented the schedule considering only the distribution of the Oxford vaccine, the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) sent a letter to the minister of the portfolio, Eduardo Pazuello, requesting the inclusion of Coronavac – vaccine from Chinese pharmaceutical Sinovac and developed in partnership with the Butantan Institute – in the National Immunization Program. At the press conference, Elcio Franco, executive secretary, pointed out that the government follows “more than 200 initiatives around the world and, in particular, as the focus on those that are at a more advanced stage of development”.

The executive secretary pointed out that at the moment the government is adhering to any initiative that meets demands such as safety, effectiveness and price. “So we have not ruled out any possibilities and so we are focusing mainly on those who are in the third phase of their tests”, he informed. He also pointed out that there is “a great possibility of working with several vaccines simultaneously or as they arrive and are inserted in the National Immunization Program”. “We have already highlighted the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine and the Butantan vaccine, for sure, it is in this hall. At no time was anything different than said, ”said Elcio.
