Chancellors test positive for covid-19 after EU meeting

Austrian Foreign Ministers Alexander Schallenberg and Belgium Sophie Wilmes tested positive for the new coronavirus after attending a meeting with colleagues from the European Union (EU) last week.

They sat side by side over breakfast at the meeting of the EU’s Council on Foreign Relations on Monday (12) in Luxembourg, the Austrian Chancellor said.

“Schallenberg is suspected of being infected at the Council on Foreign Relations in Luxembourg on Monday,” a ministry spokeswoman said in a statement, adding that he had no symptoms and was tested as a routine measure.

Sophie Wilmes said on Saturday (17) that her test was positive, the day after she went into isolation with symptoms of covid-19.
