The referee Savio Pereira Sampaio is the main responsible for the whistle in the duel between Athletico Paranaense and Corinthians, which takes place this Wednesday night, at 21.30, in Arena da Baixada, for the 16th round of the Brazilian Championship.
It is only the second time that the professional is scheduled for an appointment by Timão. The first meeting took place in the middle of 2018, when the alvinegra team was only in the 1-1 draw with Ceará, at Neo Química Arena.
At the time, the referee was strongly contested for not pointing out two penalties in favor of the São Paulo club and distributed two yellow cards to Corinthians – see more here.
It should be noted that Daniel Henrique da Silva Andrade and José Reinaldo Nascimento Junior assist the judge in the flags, while Leonardo Ferreira Lima was the fourth referee selected in the capital of Paraná. The VAR is in charge of Elmo Alves Resende Cunha.
With only 15 points in 15 games played, Corinthians is in an uncomfortable 17th position, opening the relegation zone. This Wednesday’s opponent, Athletico has the same score as Timão, but occupies the 15th position.
