The United States recorded 50,160 new cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, according to figures from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), published this Saturday afternoon (3). The number of deaths registered in the same interval was 816. With the updates, the total number of confirmed cases of the disease in the country reached 7,310,625, the highest worldwide. The death toll rose to 208,118.

There were 301,539 confirmed cases in the country in the last seven days. In proportions, the United States has 2,209 cases per 100,000 people, and 63 deaths per 100,000. The new figures were released amid the admission of American President Donald Trump after he was diagnosed with the disease. Conflicting information from White House doctors and sources close to Trump raised doubts about his real condition.

On Europe, while new restrictions on circulation came into force in Madrid, Spain, the British government imposed similar measures in the Northeast and Northwest regions of the country, which includes the city of Liverpool, the tenth largest in England. As of midnight on Saturday, residents of Liverpool and surrounding areas and four other cities are unable to meet people outside their homes or the regions in which they live, a ban that extends to private meetings.

According to the government of United Kingdom, measures are taken at a time when the incidence rates of covid-19 are above 170 per 100,000 people in some of these regions. After a fall between June and August, the number of confirmed cases of the disease in Britain rose again. Yesterday, 6,968 cases were confirmed, according to the latest data from the country’s Department of Health.

Worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University, the number of covid-19 cases reaches 34,706,736, with the United States, India and Brazil as the countries with the highest numbers. Globally, 1,029,969 deaths are caused by the disease, with the USA and Brazil leading the statistics.
