The World Health Organization said healthy young people should wait until 2022 to be vaccinated against the new coronavirus. The priority must be the main risk groups, such as health professionals, the elderly and teachers.

Says WHO’s chief scientist, Soumya Swaminathan: “People think that on the first day of January they will get the vaccine and everything will be back to normal, but it won’t work like that”.

Soumya also reaffirmed that vaccines may already be approved by WHO if they prove 50% effective in immunization.

About ten immunizers are in the final stages of study, three of them being tested in Brazil – from the Sinovac laboratory, in partnership with the Butantan Institute, AstraZeneca and Pfizer.
