The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday (15) that the number of deaths due to covid-19 in Brazil fell 8%, to 4,211 deaths, in the week ended on October 10 and recorded the third consecutive period of decline.

In the period, 175,804 new proven cases of respiratory disease were registered new coronavirus. The number is 7% lower than that computed in the previous week.

The data point to the maintenance of the tendency to fall in the volume of cases and death from the disease that started 19 weeks ago. “Around the 22nd epidemiological week, we had a plateau of deaths that remained for about six weeks. Since then, we have already seen a downward trend”, analyzes the secretary of health surveillance of the portfolio, Arnaldo Medeiros.

Asked about the possibility of omitting the number of cases due to the proximity of municipal elections, the executive secretary of the Ministry of Health, Elcio Franco, says that the number of hospitalizations proves the data.

“There is also a drop in the number of hospitalizations. There is no way to handle hospitalizations, because the patient goes to bed or goes to the ICU”, explains Franco.

According to the revealed data, the trend of reduction in the number of deaths is verified in all regions of Brazil, with emphasis on the North and Northeast. In the last week analyzed, only the Southeast had an increase in the number of deaths.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 332 deaths by covid-19 have been recorded only among health professionals, of whom 114 (34.3) were nursing technicians or assistants, 65 (19.5%) doctors and 41 (12 , 3%) nurses.

Worldwide, more than 38.7 million people have been infected by the disease since the beginning of the pandemic. Of the total number of patients, almost 1.095 million died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
